Teacher Standards
  • V. Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction Design, implement and assess learning experiences that ncorporate use of technology in a curriculum-related instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem solving, communication and/or collaboration. 1. Assess students’ learning/ instructional needs to identify the appropriate technology for instruction. 2. Evaluate technology materials and media to determine their most appropriate instructional use. 4. Use appropriate instructional strategies for integrating technology into instruction. 5. Select and use appropriate technology to support content-specific student learning outcomes.

Lesson Title: Footprints in the Snow

Lesson Objective: SWBAT match the written/vocalized name of the animal that made the animal track in the picture IOT demonstrate generalization of content by using PCS, verbalizing the animal name or using a Voice Output Device to identify the animal.
Lesson Description: Students were presented with animal pawprints in black and white form. Students identified the animals by the black/white pawprints before being presented with real photographs of animal prints in the snow. Students were first shown the real photographs on the document camera and they matched the black/white pawprints to the pictures before being presented with the voicethread aspect of the lesson. Students used PCS paired with Voice Output Devices or thier own voices to comment on the photos in the voicethread. The voicethread was the final assessment in identifying animals by their footprints.

Reflection:Using this application with a classroom of primarily nonverbal students was a struggle for me. I had to figure out a way for each student who was nonverbal to have a 'voice' on the voicethread. The students enjoyed using the microphone to name the animal that matched the track. Using different methods of communication (VOD,speech, and type) allowed all students in the classroom to participate using the voicethread. I feel that the voicethread would be very beneficial for use with online classes or schools more than it was for my students because they are nonverbal. My students enjoyed the final product when we listened/watched the whole thing and it showed me that they were able to generalize 2d (black/white) line drawings of animal tracks to the real photo of the animal tracks. Great Job to my students!!!!!!!
